In a battle of two top-ten teams in the nation, #10 Lazers Baseball dropped a 4-game series, 3-1, to #4 Niagara Community College this week. Onondaga visited the Thunderwolves on Tuesday, April 25
th, splitting the doubleheader with scores of 2-1 and 4-6, and lost both games on Thursday when they hosted Niagara at the Baseball Complex.

Tuesday Game One: Onondaga 2, Niagara 1 (7 innings)

Mikey Espinal (1-for-2) and
Josh Cosgrove (2-for-2) led their team to victory with two home runs. The Lazers entered the fifth inning with a 1-0 deficit, and after two Lazers fell to a strikeout
Mikey Espinal tied the game with a blast over the left-center field fence. The game remained locked at one run each into the seventh inning when
Josh Cosgrove led off with a homerun over the wall in left field. The defense locked up in the bottom of the seventh to put away the fourth ranked team in the country.

Matthew Valin continued his dominance on the mound, collecting his seventh win of the season. His complete game effort tallied 7 strikeouts, 4 walks, 4 hits, and one run.

Tuesday Game Two: Onondaga 4, Niagara 7 (7 innings)

After the first inning, OCC was trailing 2-1, but tied the game in the top of the fourth after a leadoff single by
Terry Daniels. Daniels reached third base on a single by
Justin Germain and a fielder's choice off the bat of
Mikey Espinal, and a balk brought in the tying run.

Niagara took over in the bottom of the fourth, scoring five runs off just one hit. The leadoff Thunderwolves batter was hit, followed by four walks, and a grand slam to take the 8-2 advantage into the final innings. The Lazers added one run in both the sixth and seventh inning but were unable to recover.

Tommie Spinner pitched 3 1/3 innings, giving up 6 runs on 3 hits and striking out three.
Shane Krawec walked one, and
Dylan McGee and
Colin Smith split the final innings. McGee gave up 2 hits and 2 runs, while Smith kept Niagara scoreless but gave up one hit and a walk.

Justin Germain led the way with two hits each. Other hits for the Lazers came from
Chad Raychel,
Josh Cosgrove, and
Mikey Espinal.

Thursday Game Three: Onondaga 8, Jamestown 4 (7 innings)

The Lazers did not have an answer for Niagara pitcher, David Lyskawa, falling victim to 11 strikeouts.
Justin Germain broke the no-hitter in the bottom of fifth inning but was left on first.
David Heath gave the Lazers hope in the sixth with a leadoff single and a wild pitch moved him to second base, but he was left in his place as Lyskawa struck out three straight to end the inning.

Sean Connors pitched 5 2/3 innings and gave up 2 runs on 9 hits.
Kyle Canavally gave up 1 hit and 2 runs through two-thirds.
Colin Smith gave up one run and a walk, and
Shane Krawec pitched the final two-thirds with a strikeout and 2 hits.

Thursday Game Four: Onondaga 1, Niagara 6 (7 innings)

Niagara struck first in the top of the third off a two-RBI double.
Terry Daniels ran the distance to track down the line drive. He was able to put a diving glove on it but the ball was just out of reach for the 2016 Gold Glove Center Fielder.

The Lazers responded in the bottom half, putting one run on the board.
Brandon Breen got it started with a single through the left side of the infield and
Chad Raychel's single to right put runners on the corners.
Josh Cosgrove hit a grounder to short-stop to earn the RBI but forced a 6-4-3 double play, and
Terry Daniels popped out to short stop to end the inning.

The Lazers were held to just one hit to close out the game, as Niagara cushioned their lead with four more runs on four hits.

James Salamone took his first loss of the season, giving up 4 runs on 5 hits and 4 walks through four innings.

Onondaga looks to rebound this weekend as they travel to Tompkins Cortland on Saturday, followed by a home doubleheader against the Panthers on Sunday for Sophomore Day. Before the start of the doubleheader at 1pm, the Lazers will be celebrating the two year players in their final season at OCC.
