Herkimer, NY - Onondaga Baseball traveled to Herkimer County Community College in the subregional round of the Region 3 Tournament as the No. 3 (West) seed to face the No. 2 (East) Generals. The Lazers fell in game 1 and 2 in the best of three game series.
The Lazers were first on the board in game 1 after a
Ryan Campbell (Syracuse, NY / Westhill HS) single scored
Mike Ferranti (Endicott, NY / Union Endicott HS). They took a 3-0 lead in the 2nd after Ferranti scored
Luke Pickett (Aurora, NY / Westhill HS). and
Cooper Brogan (Sloatsburg, NY / Suffern HS). Jesse DeMaintenon (Canastota, NY / Canastota HS) led on the mound for OCC, shutting out the Generals in the first two innings. A 9-run inning in the 3rd for the Generals gave them the edge which they extended to 12-3 with a run in the 4th, 5th, and 6th inning and held OCC scoreless.
Luis Suarez (Syracuse, NY / West Genesee HS) doubled in the 7th inning to score Ferranti.
Anthony Sawanec (Westmoreland, NY / Westmoreland HS) tallied an RBI of his own to score
Odlanier Andrades (Syracuse, NY / Henninger HS), trailing 12-5, giving the Generals the shot to end it in 7 innings. A run in the bottom of the 7th ended game 1 via mercy rule, 13-5. Ferranti, Campbell, Sawanec, and Pickett each went 2-4 from the plate.
Campbell led things on the mound in game 2. The Generals scored on a passed ball in the 1st inning getting on the board first. The Lazers scored their first runs in the 3rd when Ferranti doubled to score
Cole Jordan (Dewitt, NY / Jamesville Dewitt HS) and Ferranti reached home on a passed ball to lead 2-1. A lead off triple in the 6th inning found the Generals another run to tie it 2-2. 4 runs in the 7th and a pair in the 8th gave Herkimer a 8-2 lead, with OCC unable to string together runs, resulting in a 8-2 loss for OCC and an end to the series. Ferranti went 2-4 with an RBI in game 2. Campbell tallied 4 strikeouts on the mound.
The Lazers finish with an overall record of 21-23.
