Box Score 3 The Onondaga Lazers gritted its way to a 2-2 record in the inaugural Lazers' Baseball Classic, featuring Region III's Herkimer Generals and Region XIX's Nationally 10th ranked Northampton Spartans. The Lazers record stands at 3-6 heading into MSAC play.Â
Game One- Onondaga 4, Herkimer 7
In game one of the Lazers Classic, Onondaga sent sophomore
Kyle Canavally to the mound, who would work quickly through the first two innings, striking out 4 of the first 7 batters he would face. After the Generals would plate 2 runs in the top of the 3
rd inning, newcomers Zach Krawczyk and Zach Pieklik would begin the rally by working back-to-back walks to begin the bottom frame. Krawczyk would cut the deficit in half on an
Anthony Carrodeguas sacrifice fly. Onondaga's offense would continue to battle, using singles from sophomores Billy Clifford and
James Salamone to start the inning. Krawczyk would account for another run, plating Salamone on a single to shallow left field to knot it up at 2. Canavally would scatter 2 hits over the following 3 innings with 3 more strikeouts keeping the score tied up at 2 for the Lazers' next rally. The sophomore would finish with 7 strikeouts, allowing 2 runs.The Lazers would load the bases with its first three hitters to begin the bottom half of the 6
th, scoring on a RBI walk from Pieklik and add another insurance run from sophomore Josh Loeffler to lead 4-2. The Generals would begin a furious rally in the 7
th, scoring 5 to down the Lazers in Game one.
Game Two- Onondaga 4, Northampton 2
Returning to Syracuse fresh off a 2017 NJCAA World Series berth, the 10
th ranked Northampton Spartans began quickly in game two, scoring 2 runs off 2 hits to lead 2-0 after the top half of the third inning. Sophomore
Anthony Carrodeguas would spark a two-out rally with a bunt single down the third base line. Loeffler would keep the line moving with a single. They would score off RBI hits by Wilson Jimenez and
Joey Lowen to tie the game at 2 to end the third. Sophomores Billy Clifford and
David Heath would start another 2-out rally in the bottom frame of the fifth with back-to-back singles. Clifford would score to break the tie and give the Lazers a 3-2 advantage after 5. Onondaga would add an insurance run in the sixth after Freshman Maxx Kies would rope a double to right center field to begin the 6
th. Carrodeguas nearly beat out his third bunt-for-hit on the day, moving the rookie Kies to third base. Kies would score on a wild pitch to close out the inning. Freshman Connor VanDreason would hold the Spartans in check by allowing only three baserunners to reach base in his complete game effort.

Game Three- Onondaga 4, Northampton 0
Onondaga hosted the 10
th ranked Spartans to begin Day 2. Sophomore
Amir Nitowski needed just 8 pitches to retire the side to begin the game before the Lazers' offense would take an early lead on three straight singles by sophomores Wilson Jimenez,
Joey Lowen, and Billy Clifford. Jimenez and Clifford would both reach base in their first at-bats on 3 hits and an error.Â
The jumpstart offense would continue in the bottom of the 2
nd inning. Josh Loeffler plated Onondaga's third run on a sharp single up the middle, scoring Carrodeguas to lead 3-0 after 2. Loeffler reached base twice, adding a run scored in the 4
th. Nitowski would retire 13 of the next 14 batters before working out of a bases-loaded jam in the sixth inning getting a ground ball back to himself. Nitowski would fan 2 of 3 Spartans in the top of the 7
th for his 6
th strikeout to complete the shutout victory. He runs his record to 2-0 on the young season.Â

Game Four- Onondaga 1, Herkimer 3
The final game of the Lazers Classic saw limited offensive action from both sides. Freshman Sam Beadle would get the ball for Onondaga, and work two scoreless innings before giving up an unearned run in the third for the Generals 1-0 lead.Herkimer would take a 2-0 lead after 4 1/2 innings before Onondaga's offense would get started with
Anthony Carrodeguas wearing a pitch to lead off the bottom of the fifth. Sophomore
Joey Lowen would notch his second hit of the day on an RBI triple to deep right field to cut the Generals lead in half. Lowen finished 2-for-3 on the day. The visitors would get the run back in the top half of the inning on a sacrifice fly. Sophomore pitcher
Dylan McGee would work a clean 7
th inning to keep the Herkimer lead at 3-1. Carrodeguas would reach base with one out in the bottom of the 7
th before the Generals would hand the Lazers the loss.

Onondaga opens up MSAC play Tuesday, March 27 with a doubleheader vs Jefferson Community College at the baseball complex. First pitch is slated for 1PM, with the nightcap 25-minutes after completion of the first game.Â
