Three Lazers earn All-MSAC, Sheedy awarded Coach of the Year

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
Onondaga Baseball completed the regular season on Tuesday afternoon with 12-1 and 4-1 victories over Corning Community College. The sweep gives the Lazers an overall record of 33-11 and a 17-1 record in conference play, the best regular season since 2014. The success of the season thus far was capped off with four Lazers receiving Mid State Athletic Conference (MSAC) recognition.

Coach John Sheedy was crowned MSAC Coach of the Year after guiding the Lazers to his second 30+ win season.  Sheedy took over the program at the start of the 2015 season, and has guided the program to an overall record of 89-52.

Lazers Ace, Matthew Valin was appropriately announced to the All-MSAC team after striking out 93 batters so far this season, ranking him third in the country. After losing the first game of the season Valin is a perfect 8-0 and currently leads the team with a 2.25 earned run average. He has pitched five games with at least ten strikeouts, and averages 10.3 strikeouts per game.

Chad Raychel earned a spot on the All-MSAC team by leading the Lazers in stolen bases and fielding percentage all season. The speedster has thirty stolen bases on the season so far, only being caught once. Raychel's quickness has translated into a perfect 1.00 fielding percentage in left field with thirty-three putouts over thirty-five starts.

Veteran Catcher, Josh Cosgrove currently leads the team in batting average (.333), hits (42), triples (4), and RBIs (41); additionally, he has only struck-out ten times in 157 plate appearances. His experience behind the plate has captured nine runners attempting to steal and he has a .963 fielding percentage. Cosgrove's versatility in the field allows him to also play third base, keeping his bat in the line-up and giving the first-year catchers vital game experience.
