Raychel’s four RBI day help the Lazers sweep Jefferson

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
Onondaga Baseball defeated Jefferson Community College on Tuesday afternoon at the Onondaga Baseball Complex by scores of 4-1 and 3-2.

Game One: Onondaga 4, Jefferson 1 (7 innings)

Sean Connors started on the mound for the Lazers, and he controlled the game from the first pitch. He struck out the first Cannoneer and followed up with three straight strikes for his second K of the game. Connors then gave up a walk on a full-count but redeemed himself as he connected with Anthony Sinicropi at first base to pick-off the runner to end the inning.

The Lazers put one run on the board in the bottom of the first inning when Joey Lowen knocked an RBI single to right-center field, scoring Josh Cosgrove from first. Lowen was able to advance to third after a throwing error by the Jefferson catcher, but was left stranded when Terry Daniels grounded out to the second baseman.

Connors was back at it in the second inning, striking out three more batters and keeping the Cannoneers scoreless despite giving up a triple.

Onondaga scored their remaining three runs of the game in the bottom of the second inning. Ethan Wiedmer battled at the plate to earn a two-out walk and advanced to second when the second baseman could not handle Anthony Carrodeguas's grounder. Brandon Breen's game-winning single to right scored Ethan Wiedmer from second, and Chad Raychel followed up with a 2 RBI single to the gap in left-center field to score Carrodeguas and Breen.

Sean Connors finished his 5 innings of work by accumulating 9 strikeouts and giving up 6 hits, 2 walks, and one run. Dylan McGee and Shane Krawec kept the Cannoneers scoreless as they shared the sixth inning, and Kyle Naugle closed the game by delivering 2 strikeouts.

Lazers hits came from Brandon Breen, Chad Raychel, Joey Lowen, and Mikey Espinal. Chad Raychel went 1-for-2 from the plate with 2 RBIs and one walk.

Game Two: Onondaga 3, Jefferson 2 (7 innings)

Onondaga took the, 1-0, lead when Chad Raychel added his third RBI of the afternoon in the bottom of the third inning, knocking in David Heath with a single to left field.

James Salamone kept the Cannoneers scoreless until the top of the fifth when Jefferson took the, 2-1, lead with the help of two hit batters and two hits; however, the Lazers responded in the bottom half of the inning. Anthony Carrodeguas smashed a double to the center field fence, and Chad Raychel's clutch hitting scored Carrodeguas with a single over the second baseman's head.

Dylan McGee got the nod to finish the final two innings. McGee gave up a double to start the sixth but settled in when he forced a popup to short-stop and struck out two straight. He continued his control as he held Jefferson scoreless in the top of the seventh.

The Lazers loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh from two walks and a hit batter, and a balk by the Jefferson pitcher forced the winning run across the plate for the, 3-2, victory.

Chad Raychel went 2-for-3 from the plate with 2 RBIs, one walk, and a stolen base. Anthony Carrodeguas batted .500 with 2 runs, a walk, and one stolen base. Onondaga hits also came from Brandon Breen, Joey Lowen, and Mikey Espinal.

James Salamone gave up 2 runs on 4 hits and struck out five through 5 innings. Dylan McGee earned the win through 2 innings of work with 4 strikeouts.

Onondaga will host SUNY Broome Community College this weekend for a four-game series. The doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday will begin at 1pm with the second games starting around 3:30pm.
