Onondaga Baseball defeated Danville Community College and Montgomery Community College at The Ripken Experience on Wednesday.
Game One: Onondaga 10, Danville 4 (7 innings)
The Lazers jumped out to a, 2-0, lead in the first inning.
Brandon Breen hit a leadoff double to left-center, followed by
Josh Cosgrove going yard to center field.
Chad Raychel hit a two-out RBI single in the second inning, knocking in
Anthony Carrodeguas from second base to increase the Lazers lead to, 3-0.
Onondaga added another run in the top of the sixth with back-to-back singles from
Joey Lowen and
Anthony Sinicropi, followed by a Danville error that scored Lowen.
Danville cut their deficit in half by adding two runs in the bottom of the sixth, but an 8-run seventh inning sealed the win for Onondaga. The Lazers took advantage of seven walks and a single from
Anthony Sinicropi to earn the, 12-4, victory over the Jaguars.
Through five innings of work,
James Salamone gave up 2 runs on 9 hits and struck out two to get his first win of the season.
Kyle Naugle closed the game by giving up 2 runs on 3 hits with one strikeout.
Justin Germain,
Joey Lowen, and
Anthony Sinicropi (2 RBIs) had two hits apiece. Three RBIs each came from
Chad Raychel and
Josh Cosgrove.
Brandon Breen hit a double, and
Anthony Carrodeguas walked three times and stole 3 bases.
Game Two: Onondaga 5, Montgomery 1 (7 innings)
The top of the line-up kept the momentum going for game two, getting the Lazers on the board early.
Brandon Breen was hit by a pitch to start and advanced to second on a wild pitch.
Chad Raychel earned a walk on a full count,
Josh Cosgrove sacrificed himself to advance the runners, and
Terry Daniels cleared the bases with a single to left.
Montgomery scored their lone run in the top-half of the second, but
Brandon Breen keep the Lazers advantage at two runs when he hit an RBI single in the bottom of the second to score
David Heath.
After a scoreless third,
Brandon Breen's great day at the plate continued. Mikey Espinal hit a single to center to begin the fourth, advanced to third on a passed ball and Montgomery error, when Breen smashed a deep sacrifice fly to right-center to score Espinal.
Josh Cosgrove opened the fifth with a triple to right-center and
Adrian Adams followed up with a double to left, scoring Cosgrove to complete the two-game sweep.
Matthew Valin commanded the mound through six innings of work. The Sophomore Southpaw fanned 12 while giving up 4 walks, one run, and one hit.
Kyle Naugle gave up one hit, one walk, and striking out two to earn his second save of the season.
It was a team victory for Onondaga; seven hits were divided equally amongst seven Lazers.
