Lazers take two in battle of region unbeatens

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Lazer baseball team swept a doubleheader against Niagara County Community College today, winning 4-2 in game 1 and 2-1 in game 2.  Both Onondaga and Niagara came into the day unbeaten in NJCAA Region III play.  The wins leave Onondaga alone as the only team unbeaten in regional play.

Game 1 - Chris Rave helps Onondaga Lazers down NCCC 4-2

Both teams entered today's games undefeated in Region 3 play with matching 12-0 records.  

Chris Rave went 1-1, helping Onondaga Lazers to a 4-2 victory over NCCC on Thursday.  He singled in the second inning.

Onondaga Lazers got the win thanks in large part to Jacob Shortslef's dominant, eight-strikeout performance. Jacob allowed one earned run, four hits and four walks over seven innings.

Andrew Dewitt took the loss for NCCC. He lasted just six innings, walked one, struck out four, and allowed four runs.

The bottom of the second saw Onondaga Lazers take an early lead, 1-0. Chris singled to ignite Onondaga Lazers' offense. A single by Ryan Paige then moved Chris from first to second.

Onondaga Lazers didn't relinquish the lead after scoring two runs in the fifth inning when it scored on a sacrifice fly by Chris Rave.

Game 2 - Pat Merryweather not deterred by lack of offense from Onondaga Lazers in 2-1 victory over NCCC

Onondaga Lazers didn't provide Pat Merryweather with much support, but he didn't need much. Merryweather pitched seven strong innings to carry Onondaga Lazers to a 2-1 win over NCCC in seven innings on Thursday.

Ed Tagliareni walked to get on base in the sixth in a 1-1 tie. He then went from first to second on a groundout by Tyler Kirwan, Tagliareni eventually scored from 3rd on a wild pitch after moving to 3rd on Ryan Paige's groundout.

Bobby O'Connor couldn't get it done on the rubber for NCCC, taking a loss. He lasted just five innings, walked two, struck out three, and allowed two runs.

The second inning saw NCCC score its only run on the day on a passed ball.

With the sweep, Onondaga moves to 26-6 overall and 14-0 in Region 3.  The Lazers are currently ranked #5 in the nation.
