Box Score It proved to be another classic in the continuing battles between NJCAA Region 3 women's basketball powerhouses. Over the past eight years one of the two teams has represented Region 3 in the national tournament – and this year's contest matched #2 nationally ranked Mohawk Valley Community College against #9 ranked Onondaga Community College. They are also the #1 and #2 ranked teams in the region.

The game was not only close throughout but saw no less than ten lead changes from the first half until the end of the game. Onondaga jumped out to a slim 2 point lead at the end of the first period (14-12) that it maintained through halftime (32-30). Mohawk Valley surged to a 53-48 lead at the end of three only to see its extended 8 point lead evaporate in the final stanza as the Lazers pulled ahead by 3 points (64-61) with a minute and a half left in the contest. In a game of runs, Mohawk closed the game on an 11-0 run to come away with the 72-64 win.Â

Samantha Britton (Kenmore West) led the Lazers in scoring and rebounding with 28 points (including two 3 pointers) and 12 rebounds while
Michaela Whiteman (G. Ray Bodley – Fulton) had 13 points and was 9 for 10 from the foul line. As a team Onondaga made 24 of 27 free throw attempts.Â
Rachel Scalisi (Fabius – Pompey) led the team with 6 assists. With the loss, Onondaga falls to 16-4 while Mohawk improves to 14-2.

The Lazers return home to Allyn Hall after playing eight consecutive road games (with the last 5 in a 8 day period) on Wednesday, January 24 for a 5pm tip-off against Finger Lakes Community College. With both teams being a perfect 4-0 in the MidState Athletic Conference, the game will have special meaning for conference play. Â
