Brownwood, TX - Onondaga Women's Basketball tipped off at the Brownwood Coliseum at 12PM CT as the No. 8 seed with the No. 9 Bronx Community College. Sophomore
Jada Crocker (Fairport, NY / Fairport HS) led the Lazers to a victory in the first round with 28 points and a spot in the top eight.
After nerves shook off and five straight turnovers started the 1st quarter, five lead changes followed in the 1st quarter that concluded with a 2-point edge for OCC. Giselle Allen-Cruz
(Valrico, FL / Liverpool HS) sparked a run in the 2nd quarter for the Lazers, entering the game with 7 straight points for OCC to take an 8 point lead before extending it to 33-21, their largest lead of the half. Bronx followed with a 5-point run to cut it back to 7 before the break.
OCC led the entire duration of the second half thanks to Crocker's dominance in the paint. The Lazers began to pull away after back to back threes from Jones and
Amiya Johnson (Fairport, NY / Fairport HS) with six to go in the 3rd. Keeping the Broncos out of reach in the 4th, OCC secured themselves a first-round victory and an advancement to the quarterfinal round. Onondaga shot 41% from the field, 37.5% from beyond the arc, scored 44 points within the paint, and converted 20 Bronx turnovers to 40 points. Allen-Cruz and Jones each put up 11 in the victory.
Onondaga faces the No. 1 seed, Minnesota West Community and Technical College in the quarterfinal round on March 12th at 12PM CT / 1PM ET.
