Box Score Sophomore guard
Michaela Whiteman (G. Ray Bodley – Fulton) scored a career high 22 points (that included going 10 for 13 from the foul line) to lead the Onondaga Community College women's basketball team to a 76-57 win over conference foe Tompkins-Cortland Community College in Dryden on Saturday afternoon. With the win the Lazers improves to 4-0 in the conference and 16-3 overall. TC3 fell to 2-3 in the conference and 8-6 for the season.
Onondaga once again used a denying half court defense that caused 37 turnovers for the home team – which were converted into transition baskets for the Lazers on the offensive end. Onondaga built on a 19-16 first quarter lead that was extended to a 44-33 margin at halftime. The Lazers went on to play a steady second half of basketball that led to their victory.
Sydni Eure (East Syracuse – Minoa) got back on the double double train with 18 points and 12 rebounds to go along with a team high 6 steals. The team continued to share the ball with 21 assists with Whiteman leading the way with 6. Leading scorer Samantha Britton (Kenmore West) was plagued with foul trouble throughout the game but still managed to pull down 9 rebounds in limited action.
Danielle Yates (East Syracuse – Minoa) had a strong game off the bench with 8 points and 7 boards.
Onondaga (currently #9 in the national NJCAA rankings) travels to Utica on Monday for an 8pm game against regional rival Mohawk Valley Community College (currently the 2
nd ranked team in the nation). The Monday contest will be the Lazers' eighth consecutive away game.
