Onondaga Women's Basketball is the 2016-17 Mid-State Athletic Conference Tournament Champion after defeating Finger Lakes Community College, 65-58, on Sunday in Allyn Hall. The victory marks the program's eighth straight MSAC Tournament Title.

After holding the visiting Lakers scoreless through the first three minutes of play, Finger Lakes scored sixteen unanswered to gain their largest lead of the game. The Lazers responded with a, 8-2, run with six coming from
Morgan Deland (Marcellus), closing the first quarter with a, 14-19, deficit.

Morgan Deland started the second quarter with back-to-back buckets to get her team within three, but FLCC would not give up the lead. Halfway through the second, Deland tied the game at 25 off an assist from
Jordan Vaught (Bishop Grimes), but again Finger Lakes closed the door by scoring six unanswered. OCC was down at the half, 27-31.

Onondaga started the third by scoring four straight to tie the game, but Finger Lakes responded with three of their own to hold the advantage. With three minutes remaining in the third,
Morgan Deland and
Jaleya Bryant (Nottingham) made back-to-back buckets to capture the Lazers first lead since the 7:55 mark in the first. Bryant closed the third by draining two free throws to hold the narrow, 43-42, edge to start the final ten minutes of play.

Finger Lakes fought back to get within one point halfway through the forth, but with victory in their sights the Lazers defense took over by holding FLCC scoreless through six possessions, and cushioning their lead with eight straight points.
Morgan Deland confirmed victory in the final seconds with a layup off a steal from
Jordan Vaught.

The Mid-State Athletic Conference Tournament MVP was awarded to
Morgan Deland (20 points, 13 rebounds), the sophomore forward was perfect from the charity stripe and shot .727 from the floor.
Jaleya Bryant followed suit with 17 points and 9 rebounds, her best performance of the season.
Jordan Vaught chipped in 9 points, 7 rebounds, and 7 assists, and
Sam Britton added 9 points and 8 rebounds.

Onondaga (25-5) sits in the second seed of NJCAA Region III playoffs, behind Mohawk Valley. The Lazers will host Jefferson Community College (15-9) at 6pm on Tuesday night in Allyn Hall. The two teams split their matchups this season, with OCC outscoring JCC 143-125.
