Lazers Stay Unbeaten in Conference

After being tied at 29-29 with 4 minutes left in the first half, the Onondaga Community College women's basketball team went on a 17-5 run to take a 46-34 lead into halftime of their Mid State Athletic Conference game on Wednesday night against Tompkins Cortland Community College at home in Allyn Hall Gym on their way to an 88-52 win.  After halftime, the Lazersexploded for 30 points in the third quarter to put the game away.

 

With the win Onondaga improved to 10-0 (23-3 overall) in the conference while TC3 fell to 6-5 (13-9 overall).  Since returning from its Florida trip in January, the Lazers have won 11 straight and are now ranked as the #4 team Division III junior college team in the nation.

 

Sophomores Melissa Bakowski (West Genesee), Samantha Roberts (Cicero-North Syracuse), and Kumba Marong led the way for the Lazers who are now on a path to host the Region 3 championship in two weeks.  Bakowskihad a career high 25 points that included being a perfect 10 for 10 from the field.  Roberts dished out 13 assists to along with 10 points while Marongcontributed 14 points and 9 rebounds.  Hope DeFazio (Baldwinsville) alsochipped in with 11 points.

 

Onondaga will be on the road for a Saturday afternoon game against Finger Lakes Community College in Canandaigua and will finish off the regular season next Tuesday (on Sophomore Night) with a tilt against Cayuga Community College.
