Box Score The Lazers held home court in their home opener to Genesee Community College, topping the Cougars, 70-59. OCC was the early aggressor, jumping out to a 19-10 lead after the first quarter. Head Coach,
Mike Wheeler, pointed to early defense as the key to the Lazers early success.
"When we are turning teams over that's when we are at our best," said Wheeler.
The Lazers went into halftime up 39-27 with most of that credit going to Sophomore Guard,
Jordan Vaught. The Clay product dropped 14 of her 15 points just in the first half, and supplied her teammates with 8 assists throughout the game.
In the second half, the lead ballooned as much as 17 points, but the Cougars would not go away silently. Genesee cut the lead to as low as five but OCC held strong to maintain their lead and earn the victory.
Sophomore Forward,
Morgan Deland, and Freshman Forward,
Sam Britton, combined for 9 points down the stretch to seal the game for the Lazers. Britton, with her two late layups completed her stellar freshman home opener with 17 points. Deland finished the fourth quarter with a three point play which proved to be a dagger in the competition as she finished with 15.
The Lazers are back in action this Saturday, November 5, 2016 at 3:00pm to kick off the annual Onondaga Community College Classic against Dutchess Community College.
