Box Score The Lazer volleyball team, competing at home in Allyn Hall for the first time this season, opened Mid-State Athletic Conference play with a thrilling 5-set win over Finger Lakes Community College on Wednesday night. The Lazers started quickly, cruising to a 25-14 win in the opening game. Finger Lakes rallied to even the match at 1-1, with a 25-21 win in the second game, before the Lazers again gained the edge with a 25-16 win in game 3. The visiting Lakers came from behind to even things with a 26-24 win in the 4th game, setting the stage for the 5th and deciding game. That game was back and forth throughtout, with neither team able to gain an advantage of more than 2 points. With things tied at 13-13, Onondaga was able to take back to back points to pull out a 15-13 win and capture the match.
The Lazers return to action this Saturday in the Jefferson Community College Invitational. Pool play begins at 10:00 am, with Onondaga competing in Pool B with Cayuga Community College, Herkimer College, and Fulton-MontgomeryCommunity College. Host Jefferson, Finger Lakes, Cornign Community College, and Mohawk Valley Community College will make up Pool A. The top two teams in each pool advance to the tournament semi-finals.
Onondaga's next home match will be a MSAC contest against Tompkins Cortland Community College at 6:00 pm on September 23rd.
