Canandaigua, NY - Onondaga Volleyball traveled to the MSAC tournament this weekend hosted by Finger Lakes Community College.
Onondaga entered the tournament as the No. 2 seed and took on the No. 3 Jefferson Cannoneers for the third meeting this season in the semifinal round at 11am. The Lazers fell in the first set, 25-17. The Cannoneers had the slight edge in the second winning by two, 30-28. The Lazers bounced back in the third, 25-15, forcing a fourth. Unable to come out on top, a 25-17 final in the fourth kept the Lazers from the Championship. Sophomore
Ella Beckering led the offense with 19 kills. Freshman Setter
Chylure Bucktooth recorded 29 assists. Libero
Samantha Sovocool led the defense with 22 digs.
The Lazers were awarded All-Conference honors and were titled regular season runner-ups with a 4-1 conference record.
Ella Beckering earned First Team honors appearing in 5 out of 5 conference matches. The Sophomore Outside Hitter recorded 40 kills over MSAC opponents (Broome, Corning, Finger Lakes, Genesee, Jefferson) including 16 over Corning on 9/30.
Samantha Sovocool appeared in 5 out of 5 conference matches earning First Team honors. The Freshman Libero led Onondaga's defense all season long with 80 total digs over conference opponents with 24 over Corning on 9/30.
Grace Plewak earned second team All-Conference appearing in 5 out of 5 conference matches. The Middle Blocker recorded 37 kills and 10 blocks over MSAC opponents.
Chylure Bucktooth rounded out the honors earning a spot on Third Team. The Setter from LaFayette High School appeared in 5 out of 5 conference matches. She recorded 117 assists with 37 over Corning on 9/30.
Joe Brainerd was awarded MSAC Coach of the Year, leading the Lazers to a 12-7 (.631) regular season record, the program's strongest performance since 2018.
