Box Score Syracuse, NY - The Onondaga Community College men's basketball team, looking to build on Monday's win at #9 Mohawk Valley Community College, was within 1 of Finger Lakes Community College, 55-54, with 14 minutes remaining in Wednesday's contest. The Lakers responded, however, and held the Lazers to only a Ben Honahan (Malone Franklin Academy) three-pointer over an 8:26 stretch to pull away for the 85-73 Mid-State Athletic Conference win.
Finger Lakes rode the shooting of guards Dylan Verkey and Matt Scharr to the victory, as Verkey knocked down 6 three-pointers on the way to a 20 point night, and Scharr tallied 19 points, including 5 makes from behind the arc. Will Arberry added 18 for the Lakers.
Trevor Smith (Camillus West Genesee) scored a career high 27 points, including 6 three-point goals of his own, to lead Onondaga.
Patrick Twiss (Mexico) and
Tyler Bliss (Liverpool) added 13 and 12 points respectively for the Lazers.
The Lazers travel to Cayuga Community College for a 3:00 pm tip-off on Saturday afternoon. The next home contest will be on Saturday, February 1st, at 1:00 pm, against Corning Community College in the SRC Arena & Events Center.
