Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball Ends 21-9 Season at Region 3 Tournament

Batavia, NY - Onondaga Men's Basketball traveled to Genesee Communtiy College for the 2025-26 Region 3 Tournament for the Lazers' first appearance since the 2021-22 season.

As the No. 4 seed, Onondaga received a first round bye before facing off against the No. 5 SUNY Adirondack Timberwolves in the quarterfinal round on Friday night at 7:30pm. Adirondack defeated the Lazers earlier in the season, 118-103.

Sophomore Nyqwan Morris (Brooklyn, NY / Thomas Jefferson HS) led the Lazers to a quarterfinal victory with 28 points over the Timberwolves. Brian Whitley (Geneva, NY / Geneva HS) recorded a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds. The Lazers shot 34.8% from the field and 75% from the freethrow line.

The Lazers won the opening tip putting themselves on the board first with a layup from Siyani Arthur (Brooklyn, NY / Brooklyn Law & Technology). With 8 lead changes in the first half, it was OCC who had the 2-point edge at the break, 32-30. The Lazers forced 9 Adirondack turnovers to which they converted to 12 points. Morris was unstoppable for the Timberwolves in the first half with 19 of the Lazers' 32 points.

The back and forth continued in the second half, with Adirondack reclaiming the lead in the first minute. OCC went on a run to take a 9-point lead, their largest of the game. The Timberwolves chipped away to lead by two with just under seven minutes. Taking it down to thirty seconds remaining, the Lazers took a 1-point edge on a Morris three. The Timberwolves responded with a bucket with just nine seconds to go. OCC's last possession sent Lucio Cole (Weedsport, NY / Weedsport HS) to the freethrow line, with the Lazers trailing by 1 and one second remaining. Cole went 2-2 from the line in the high pressure situation to give the Lazers the 1-point lead. A last second attempt for Adirondack fell back into the hands of OCC, forcing them to foul Cole again for one last trip to the line, going 2-2 and securing an 80-77 victory for OCC to advance to the semifinal.
 
Onondaga was matched up in the quick turnaround wih the No. 1 North Country Saints in the semifinal round on Saturday at 3pm.

The Lazers opened up to hit back to back threes from Arthur and Malachi Wilson (Brooklyn, NY / Thomas Jefferson HS) to lead 6-0. The No. 1 Saints went on to go 7-16 from beyond the arc in the first half and lead 39-22 at the break.

The Saints shot 50% from the field in the second half and outrebounded OCC 25-15, never allowing the Lazers to come within arms reach, with a final score of 82-50. Nyqwan Morris was named to the All-Tournament Team.
 
The Onondaga men finish the season at an overall 21-9 (.700) and a region 3 record of 17-7.
