Box Score 2 Daytona Beach, FL - Onondaga Community College went toe to toe with NJCAA Division I Indian River State College for much of Thursday's contest, but the Pioneers pulled away down the stretch to capture a win on the second day of the Daytona State New Year's Classic in Daytona Beach, FL. The Lazers led, 31-30, with under 5 minutes to go in the first half, but Indian River closed the half on a 14-8 run to lead by 6 at intermission. The Pioneers maintained the lead throughout, and extend it to 18, at 73-55, with 8:38 to go. The Lazers responded with a 9-0 run to narrow the deficit to 9, and had two opportunities to cut the lead further, but couldn't convert. Indian River then held off the Lazers the rest of the way for the win.

Tyler Bliss (Liverpool) led Onondaga with 19 points, with 13 coming in the second half.
Patrick Twiss (Mexico) added 17 points in his first career start, and Ben Honahan (Malone Franklin Academy) chipped in 12 for the Lazers. David Johnson led Indian River with a game high 25 points, while Isaac Torres added 12.
Yesterday, Onondaga trailed Tournament host Daytona State College, 19-15, midway through the first half, but the Falcons closed the opening session on a 35-21 run, then scored the first 9 points of the second half and pulled away to capture the opening night win. Daytona State, the #22 ranked Division I junior college team in the nation according to the most recent NJCAA national poll, picked up their 10th consecutive win and remained unbeaten at home on the season.
Rashaun Stimage came off the bench to lead Daytona State with 25 points, while Tanksley Efianayi added 18 for the Falcons. Joe Piazza (Central Square P.V. Moore) and
Zachary Loura (Fulton G. Ray Bodley) tallied 10 points each to lead the Lazers.
The Lazers will return home to open Mid-State Athletic Conference play next Tuesday, when they host Cayuga Community College. Tip-off is set for 7:00 pm in Allyn Hall.
