Trevor Smith (West Genesee) connected on a three-pointer with 7:50 to go to pull Onondaga Community College into a 55-55 tie with SUNY Broome. However, the Lazers went over 7 minutes without a field goal, allowing Broome to pull away for a 75-60 Mid-State Athletic Conference win In Allyn Hall on Tuesday night.
The Hornets opened up the game quickly, jumping out to a 21-9 advantage midway through the first half. The Lazers responded, however, and went on a 21-6 run of their own, capped by a three-pointer from
Zachary Loura (Fulton G.Ray Bodley). When Broome's Jamie Curtis answered with a three-pointer of his own, the two teams went to halftime tied at 30-30.
The two teams battled on even terms through the first part of the second session. Broome's Dylan Umbra, playing in his first game for the Hornets, scored 8 straight points to move Broome in front, 55-49, with 10:27 remaining. The Lazers responded with an 8-2 run, capped by Smith's three, which tied the game for the final time, before the Hornets pulled away down the stretch.
Frank D'Esti led a balanced Broome attack with 23 points. Curtis followed with 15, while Umbra and Adam Tillotson chipped in 14 points each. For the second straight game
Tyler Bliss (Liverpool) was Onondaga's only double figure scorer, as he posted a game high 24 points.
The Lazers begin a 3-game road stretch at Jefferson Community College on Thursday evening at 7:00 pm. Onondaga travels to Tompkins Cortland Community College on Saturday and Mohawk Valley Community College on Monday, before returning home to meet Finger Lakes Community College on Wednesday, January 22nd, at 6:00 pm in the SRC Arena & Events Center.
