Syracuse, NY - The Onondaga Community College men's basketball team (5-7) will play its final game of the fall semester this Saturday afternoon, when they host Herkimer County Community College (7-3). Saturday's game will tip off at 3:00 pm, and be played in the Allyn Hall Gymnasium on the Onondaga campus.
Onondaga enters Saturday's game coming off of a split of road contests last weekend. On Saturday,
Lloyd Parkmond (Rome Free Academy) came off the bench to post a career best 22 points and 9 rebounds as the Lazers defeated North Country Community College, 84-72. The following day, Onondaga fell behind early and ended up with their lowest point total of the season, falling 85-72 at Clinton Community College.
Sophomore guard
Vaughndell Brantley (Cicero-North Syracuse) leads the Lazers in scoring, averaging 15.7 points per game so far this season. Captain
Tyler Bliss (Liverpool) averages 13.7 points and 8.8 rebounds per contest. Bliss is shooting a team best 55.4% from the floor. Joe Piazza (Central Square P.V. Moore) is averaging 11 points per game, and leads the Lazers with 26 made three-point goals. Point guard Ben Honahan (Malone Franklin Academy) averages 8 points and 4 assists per contest, and is shooting 40.7% from behind the three-point arc.
Herkimer enters Saturday's contest ranked as the #8 team in the nation, according to the most recent NJCAA Division III national poll. The Generals dropped their last contest, however, a 71-67 decision at Division II Monroe Community College on Wednesday evening. 6'8" forward John Feiler scored 34 points and pulled down 13 rebounds for Herkimer in that contest. Two of Herkimer's three losses this season have come against the Tribunes.
Feiler leads Herkimer with averages of 19.4 points and 9.9 rebounds per game. 2008 Bishop Ludden graduate Wendall Williams is averaging 15.5 points per game for the Generals, while freshman forward Enson Garcia is chipping in 12.5 points per contest.
Following Saturday's game Onondaga will be off until after final exams and the Christmas holiday. The Lazers will ring in the New Year with a pair of contests against NJCAA Division I opponents at the Daytona State College New Year's Classic on January 1st and 2nd. Onondaga will face host Daytona State on January 1st at 8:00 pm, and follow with a game against Indian River State College on January 2nd at 2:00 pm.
