Onondaga Softball faced Corning Community College in the NJCAA Region III 'B' Championship on Friday afternoon in a best of three series. The Lazers defeated the Red Barons 7-6 and 4-3 to advance to the NJCAA Division III National Championship in Rochester, MN set to kick off on May 18th.
Game One: Onondaga 7, Corning 6
The teams were fired up for the championship, both posting two runs in the first inning.
Alyssa Durrette (1-for-3) helped her own cause with a solo blast in the second to take the one run lead. The evenly matched teams ended the fourth inning tied at five before Corning's Burrell responded with a homerun of her own. In a repeat scenario of the semifinal game against Niagara Community College, Michaela Madigan sparked the comeback in the sixth inning with a lead-off single.
Casey Gray and
Nicole Sheffer then delivered two RBI doubles to take the 1-0 lead in the series.

Nicole Sheffer combined for 5 hits, 2 doubles, and 4 RBIs, and
Micaela Madigan went 2-for-4.
Alyssa Durrette gave up 6 earned runs on 11 hits with 7 strikeouts in her complete game effort.
Game Two: Onondaga 4, Corning 3
The Lazers jumped on the Red Barons early by scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning, but with two outs Corning scored three runs in the third.
Amanda Prell kept her team in the game by connecting with a game tying homerun in the bottom of the fifth inning. With the game tied going into the seventh, the OCC defense put down Corning 1-2-3 in top half, giving the bats a chance to win the game.
Nicole Sheffer (2-for-4) answered the call, delivering an RBI single to win the game for the Lazers once again.
Tori Duffy gave up 3 runs on 3 hits through 3 innings before being relieved by
Alyssa Durrette. Durrette struck out two and gave up 5 hits through 4 innings.
