Box Score Lazers Men's Lacrosse defeated Tompkins Cortland Community College, 33-5, on Saturday afternoon to become the 2017 NJCAA Region III Champions.
Onondaga dominated the game from the opening face off, scoring seven unanswered before the Panthers added one to the scoreboard and tallying 65 total shots on goal. The Lazers held a comfortable nineteen goal advantage at the half, and added six more goals in both the third and fourth periods.
Austin Staats got hot early, totaling 8 goals and 2 assists. Five points apiece came from
Russ Oakes (3 goals),
Jake McNabb (3 goals), and
Terrance Haggerty (2 goals).
Peter Kwas (3 goals) and
Brad Simoncelli (4 goals) added four points; additionally,
Sean Lattimore,
Larson Sundown, Zach Pierce, and
Nathan Sturick added three points each.
Colton Thew was perfect from the face off circle with 13 wins.
Ty Cadeau won 7-for-9,
Kiochi Nakamura went 4-for-6, and
Evan Schumacher won six.
Zach Pinney led the defense with four caused turnovers and he gobbled up six ground balls.
Riley Smith and
Cade Talbert both made 5 saves and gave up 2 goals, while
Kyle Leeming stopped 3-of-4 shots.
The Lazers will advance to the NJCAA National Championship Tournament on May 13-14, hosted by Onondaga Community College for the second consecutive year. National Championship information can be found by
