Box Score 2 Onondaga Softball visited Corning Community College, currently ranked fifth in the country, on Thursday afternoon. The Lazers split the doubleheader by scores of 14-5 and 21-6.
Game One: Onondaga 14, Corning 5
The Red Barons took the early advantage by shutting out the Lazers, 3-0, through the first three innings. Onondaga started to chip away at the lead with a two-run fourth inning, and a three-run fifth inning took the lead. The offense continued to explode, adding three run in the sixth and six runs in the seventh.
Amanda Prell was perfect from the plate with 3 hits, a double, triple, and 5 RBIs.
Katelyn Stubbs went 3-for-4. Two hits each came from
Jazz Powless,
Nicole Sheffer,
Casey Gray, and
Alyssa Durrette. Sheffer and Gray had 2 RBIs a piece, and Powless added 4 RBIs and a homerun.
Alyssa Durrette gave up 5 runs on 11 hits with 3 strikeouts to improve her record to, 7-3.
Game Two: Onondaga 6, Corning 21
A Red Baron eleven-run second inning was the difference maker in the nightcap. Onondaga crossed two runs in the second inning and attempted to come back in the fifth with four more runs, but they were unable to overcome the deficit.
Multiple hits came off the bats of
Nicole Sheffer,
Emily Clapper, and
Megan Brown. Brown and
Tash Martin contributed two RBIs a piece, and
Jazz Powless added a triple.
Tori Duffy took the loss, giving up 11 runs on 11 hits through three innings.
Megan Brown pitched the last two, giving up 10 runs on 9 hits.
Onondaga travels to Herkimer Community College on Tuesday, April 18th for a doubleheader starting at 3pm.
