Lazers Softball commanded their home field this weekend with a sweep over Hudson Valley on Saturday and a win over Genesee Community College on Sunday. Onondaga will host Mohawk Valley Community College at the Softball Complex on Tuesday, April 11
th for a doubleheader starting at 3:00 pm.
Saturday Game One: Onondaga 20, Hudson Valley 10 (5 innings)
Onondaga's bats started early and they never let up, scoring three runs in the first, four in the second, nine in the third, and four in the fourth. The Lazers had a, 20-3, advantage heading into the top of the fifth inning. The Vikings went down fighting, scoring seven, but Onondaga was able to to get out of the inning for their first win of the weekend.
As a team, Onondaga strung together a total of nineteen hits and eighteen RBIs.
Alyssa Durrette gave up three runs on two hits with two strikeouts in three innings of work.
Rae Printup gave up seven runs on five hits and struck out three through two innings.
Amanda Prell had a perfect game at the plate with 4 hits, 3 runs, 4 RBIs, a triple, and a homerun over the center field fence. Multiple hit games also came from
Jazz Powless,
Emily Clapper,
Nicole Sheffer (3 RBIs, double, triple), and
Courtney Piazza (2 RBIs, triple).
Saturday Game Two: Onondaga 20, Hudson Valley 10 (5 innings)
The Lazers kept the momentum going through the second game of the doubleheader, scoring nine runs on eleven hits and five walks.
Nicole Sheffer went 3-for-4 with 3 RBIs and a double, and
Amanda Prell smashed her second triple of the day.
Katelyn Stubbs tallied two hits and scored three times for the Lazers, and
Jazz Powless and
Emily Clapper each added a double.
Tori Duffy pitched a complete game, giving up one run on five hits and five strikeouts.
Sunday: Onondaga 9, Genesee 4
The Lazers and the Cougars played one 7-inning game after getting rained out in a doubleheader in Batavia last month. Onondaga lost to Genesee, 14-13, on March 30
th by way of a walk-off single, and the Lazers were looking for revenge on Sunday.
Onondaga scored five in the first inning, controlling the game from the first pitch. Genesee trailed, 6-0, going into the top half of the fourth when they attempted a comeback, and they were able to score four runs before the Lazers defense stepped up to get out of the inning.
Nicole Sheffer added two insurance runs in the sixth inning with a 2-run blast over the left-center field fence, giving OCC a 9-4 lead heading in to the final inning where Onondaga held Genesee scoreless to earn their third win of the weekend.
Alyssa Durrette pitched a complete game, giving up 4 runs on 6 hits and striking out six. Durrette also helped her own cause with 2 hits, 2 sacrifices, and 3 RBIs.
Nicole Sheffer went 2-for-3 with a long ball.
Jazz Powless and
Emily Clapper both went 2-for-4 with a double, triple, and 3 RBIs between them.
