Lazers Deny a Late Surge by Nassau

Box Score

Onondaga Men's Lacrosse defeated Nassau Community College, 16-13, on Saturday afternoon at the Carrier Dome on the campus of Syracuse University.

Nassau took the early lead in the first period, but Jason Tebo responded just nine seconds later with the help of Zach Pierce. Onondaga took the lead at the 12:12 mark when Larson Sundown dished out one of his four assists to Russ Oakes. Both sides remained quiet through the middle of the first until the Lions tied the game at two with 5:43 remaining. OCC scored three straight to close out the first with a, 5-2, lead.

The second opened with two goals from the Lions; however, Onondaga refused to give up the lead. In a three minute span, James Sexton scored three and Austin Staats chipped in one, keeping the Lazers in control. Nassau notched a clock-beater to end the second, making the halftime score, 9-5, in favor of the home team.

Nassau started to assemble a comeback in the third period, outscoring Onondaga, 5-4. The Lazers gave up three unanswered goals late in the third, to allow the Lions back within three.

Jason Tebo got it started in the final quarter to put the Lazers up, 14-10, but that changed quickly off three unreturned goals from Nassau. With the Lions threatening, freshman Austin Staats took it into his own hands, scoring two unassisted at the 6:05 and 2:36 marks, securing the Lazers third win of the season.

Jason Tebo led the way with 5 points (4 goals, 1 assist). Larson Sundown passed out a game-high 4 assists and James Sexton (3 goals, 1 assists) tallied 4 points of his own.
