Rochester, MN – The Onondaga Community College softball team fell to the Herkimer Generals 8-5 in the NJCAA Division III national semifinal game in Rochester, Minnesota Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Lazers finish third place in the nation with a 33-18 record; most wins by an Onondaga softball team in school history.
The Lazers quickly found themselves down 4-0 after Herkimer scored two runs in both the first and second innings. Onondaga would come right back to score three runs in the third and two in the fourth to take a 5-4 lead over Herkimer. It didn't take long for the Generals to retake the lead when they scored four runs in the bottom half of the fourth inning to go on to win 8-5.
Samantha Moon, Morgan Nichols, Casey Gray, Kyra Hunsinger and Victoria Duffy each booked two hits, while Emily Clapper and Jess Rodriguez added a hit each to round out Onondaga's 12 hit attack. Nichols drove in two runs and Clapper scored twice to lead Onondaga in those respective categories.
Nichols tossed four innings giving up four runs (three earned) on eight hits. Duffy suffered the loss going two inning issuing four runs (three earned) on five hits.
