Syracuse, NY - Volleyball hosted a regional pod on Sunday in Allyn Hall with the Genesee Cougars, Jamestown Jayhawks, and Corning Red Barons. Onondaga moved to 5-1 on the season after going 2-0 on the day over the Cougars and Jayhawks.
The Lazers took on Genesee in their first match at 12pm. They came out defeating the strong Genesee program in the first set 25-14. The Lazers dropped back to back close sets 26-24, but responded in the 4th with a victory, forcing a 5th. It was the Lazers who took the edge in the 5th, winning 15-12 in the two-hour match. Offense was led by
Grace Plewak with a career high 18 kills and
Chylure Bucktooth's career high 45 assists. Defense was led by
Samantha Sovocool with 32 digs and
Ella Beckering's 24. Bucktooth and Freshman
Elizabeth Green each had 3 service aces in the victory.
The Lazers took the court again at 2:30 after the grueling first match with Jamestown. Dropping the second set, the match was forced into a 4th, where the Lazers took a 25-21 victory, winning their second match of the day, 3-1.
Precious Gabriel finished with 12 kills and
Cariana Wilson with 11 against the Jayhawks.
Chylure Bucktooth tacked on another 40 assists. Sovocool and Beckering each had 21 kills.
The Lazers look to carry on the streak this weekend at the Corning Regional Pod where they'll take on the Red Barons and the Broome Hornets whom they defeated 3-0 in their previous meeting.
