Syracuse, NY - Onondaga Baseball hosted Erie Community College after a doubleheader on the road on Sunday.
Matt Krul got the start on the mound in game 1 for the Lazers. Krul led off the inning with a strikeout before the Kats smoked a right center bomb for a triple. Another strikeout from Krul and a groundout stranded the runner and prevented any damage from being done in the top of the 1st for the Lazers.
Mike Ferranti led off the inning with a walk followed by a stolen base and advancing to third on an Erie overthrow.
Luis Suarez was credited with the RBI on a sacrifice fly to score Ferranti for the Lazers' first run. After
Colin White reached on an error and
Carlos Jara singled, Jara was picked off at first base to end the inning.
The Lazers grabbed a quick three outs in the top of the 2nd looking to put a few more runs on the Kats.
Cooper Brogan had the lone hit in the bottom of the inning, but the Lazers were scoreless entering the 3rd still leading 1-0.
Krul grabbed a strikeout and fly out to start the 3rd inning. Three straight singles for the Kats loaded up the bases with two outs. A routine fly ball to center field ended the inning unscathed and three runners left on. Erie grabbed three quick outs for the top of the Lazer lineup in the bottom of the 3rd inning.
The Kats singled to start the inning followed by a walk. A Lazer error on a sacrifice bunt scored Erie's first run with runners on second and third. An RBI-single through the infield gave Erie the 2-1 lead. Krul grabbed a strikeout for the Lazers' first out of the inning, followed by a sac fly to score another.
Luis Suarez ended the inning catching a runner stealing third.
Ryan Campbell led off the inning with a double to deep left center, followed by an RBI double for Jara to score Campbell. Brogan found a hole to score Jara to tie it all up 3-3 with two outs in the bottom of the 4th.
Two strikeouts and a groundout for Krul made for a quick top of the 5th, still tied at 3-3. The Lazers took the edge in the bottom of the 5th after Ferranti reached on a walk, stole second base, and advanced to third on a ground ball before Campbell knocked him in on a base hit single to lead 4-3 with two outs.
The Kats led off the top of the 6th with a single before an OCC double play sent the runner back to the dugout. Krul grabbed a strikeout to end the inning with no Erie runs scored. The Lazers failed to manufacture runners in the bottom of the inning, headed to the 7th still leading 4-3.Â
The inning started with a walk for the Kats and a stolen base with the tying run on second with no outs. A fly out and sac fly advanced the tying run to third with two outs. The tying run was left stranded on a pop fly between short and left field, caught by
Carlos Jara, with the Lazers taking game 1.
Jesse DeMaintenon took the start in game 2 for Onondaga. A lead off single for the Kats and a hit batter put runners on early. An RBI single put Erie on the board first in the top of the 1st with one out. Two DeMaintenon strikeouts with runners on second and third ended the top of the 1st with only one run for the Kats. Ferranti led things off with a single up the middle. A fly out and double play ended the inning with the Kats leading 1-0.
A walk to start the inning followed by a sac bunt and a ground ball put a Kats runner on third with two outs. A ground out ended the inning with no Erie runs scored. A Campbell lead off hit and a Perrotta single put runners on for
Cooper Brogan who continued his day with a base clearing triple to score the two, taking the 2-1 lead in the 2nd.Â
DeMaintenon started the 3rd with a strikeout and groundout followed by another strikeout for a quick inning and hoping to extend their lead.
Colin White smoked a line drive to left field with two outs followed by an opposite field hit from
Ryan Campbell to move White over to third. The two runners were left on in the 3rd, with the Lazers still leading 2-1 headed to the 4th inning.Â
An error to start off the 4th put a Kats runner on second. Two ground outs moved the runner to third with two outs for the Lazers. A fly out ended the inning with no harm for the Lazers.
Cooper Brogan reached on a ground ball through the infield, advanced to second on a passed ball, and advanced to third on a ground ball with two outs. A strikeout to ended the inning stranded Brogan, still leading 2-1.
Two strikeouts for DeMaintenon in the 5th held onto the Lazers' lead. Three quick outs for the Lazers in the bottom of the inning kept the score 2-1 headed to the 6th.Â
A lead off single and stolen base put a runner in scoring for the Kats. A successful bunt moved the runner over to third with no outs and lead run on second after a passed ball. A ball through the infield scored two for the Kats, taking the 3-2 lead for the first time since the 1st inning. A strikeout and flyout limited the damage to just a 1-run lead for Erie headed to the bottom of the inning. The Lazers responded putting two runners on base with no outs to start the bottom of the inning and bringing in a new Erie pitcher.
Nick Perrotta sacrifice bunted over the runners putting both in scoring position. A
Cooper Brogan walk loaded up the bases, but the Erie pitcher struck out two Lazer batters to end the inning with three runners left on base and the Lazers still trailing 3-2.Â
An Erie single and a walk to lead off the top of the 7th brought
Sam Gallager to the mound for the Lazers. An OCC error brought in a run for the Kats and a runner to first and third with one out. A fielder's choice put another one on the board for Erie with two outs. The Lazers trailed 5-2 headed to the bottom of the 7th at the top of the lineup. A quick three outs led to a loss in game 2 for the Lazers, 5-2.
