Lazers Go 4-0 Over TC3 Panthers


Syracuse, NY - Onondaga hosted Tompkins-Cortland Community College on Sunday after traveling to their place on Saturday where they took two wins. Two more wins on Sunday over the Panthers move the Lazers to 8-6.

Sam Gallager started on the bump for the Lazers in game 1 opening up with a strikeout. base hit, stolen base. A base hit and stolen base put a Panther in scoring position, but a fielded ground ball by Gallager got the lead runner for out number two. A Panther double put runners on 2nd and 3rd with two outs. A walk loaded up the bases, but a popup ended the inning with three runners lef ton base and no harm done for Onondaga. The Lazers produced a few baserunners in the bottom of the inning on a walk and a Panther error, but scored no runs.

Gallager earned himself three consecutive strikeouts in the 2nd inning to get to the Lazers next at bat. Beginning the inning with a strikeout, Dante Santos smoked a base hit single before a stolen base getting to scoring position. A fly out and popout ended the inning, with the Lazers still scoreless. 

Still working on the mound in the 3rd was Gallager, grabbing two straight groundouts fielded by Joe Adamo at second base to start the inning and another fielded himself to get to the bottom of the inning. Mike Ferranti led off the inning with a base hit, hoping to score the first run of the game, and able to move to second on a wild pitch. Followed by a strikeout, Ferranti got himself in a pickle and was tagged out at third. A groundout to end the inning had both teams entering the 4th inning still scoreless.

The Panthers put a man on third to start the inning after a fly ball bounced passed the Lazers outfield. A big strikeout for Gallager on a full count found the Lazers their first out with a man still on third. A fly out to Mike Ferranti in center field for out number two led to the end of the top of thed inning where Ferranti hosed the Panthers runner, tagging up trying to score the Panthers' first run. Ryan Campbell singled to start the inning, but the Lazers still struggled to move runners, still 0-0 to start the 5th inning.

Gallager stayed working on the mound getting a groundout and two strikeouts in the 5th. Joe Adamo found third base on a Panther error with 1 out in the bottom of the inning and a chance for Onondaga to score a run, which they did on a sacrifice fly from Mike Ferranti to head into the 6th inning with a 1-0 lead.

Allowing one baserunner in the 6th, Suarez caught the Panthers runner stealing into second, and continuing to hold TC3 scoreless. Ryan Campbell reached on another Panther error. Another error put Carlos Jara on base for Carter King to knock in another Lazer run on an RBI single, headed to the 7th, 2-0.

Gallager remained on the mound to finish what he started, grabbing a groundout to Adamo for out number one and routine fly ball to left field for out number two. A ground ball to Gallager secured the shutout for the sophomore pitcher and the win for Onondaga in game 1.

Conner Eastwood started on the mound in game 2. Panthers start off the 1st with a double but followed with a strikeout for Eastwood. A fly ball dropping in the outfield led to two runners in scoring position with one out. Eastwood grabbed himself another strikeout before loading up the bases with two down. Eastwood got a groundout to first base, getting Onondaga out of the inning giving up no runs. Ferranti led off reaching first base, moved over to second by Suarez and advanced to third on a failed pickoff. Colin Whie had the RBI to score Ferranti putting the Lazers up 1-0.

The Panthers scored their first run in the 2nd inning on a deep fly ball knocking in a runner on third on base due to a walk. Carlos Jara singled to start the bottom of the inning. Jara made it around on a Panthers error, followed by an RBI from Jeff Ralabate and Joe Adamo, clearing the bases and putting the Lazers up 4-1. Making it back to the top of the lineup, Ferranti, Suarez, and White all singled to score another for the Lazers, ending the 2nd, 5-1.

A quick top of the inning for Eastwood with two popouts and a strikeout led to another Carlos Jara single to start the Lazers next at bats, and a pitching change for the Panthers. Nick Perrotta scooted him over on a double to left center. Kevin Stewart scored them both on a double down the third base line. Kevin Stewart scored OCC's 8th run on a wild pitch and Panther error. Bases were loaded up for Colin White, knocking in two runs on a double to deep left center before another Panther pitching change. Ryan Campbell legged out a triple to score a pair more followed by a sac fly to cap off 8 runs for the Lazers in the bottom of the 3rd, leading 13-1.

The Panthers managed to load up the bases with two outs in the top of the 4th, but the Lazers defended and Eastwood pitched his third scoreless inning. Dan Gilkey led off the inning reaching first getting hit by a pitch and advancing to third on a Ferranti double. With no runs in the inning, Onondaga just had to defend to end the game in 5 innings.

Eastwood sat down all three Panther batters adding three strikeouts to his total and securing the win. Colin White had 4 RBIs in game 2.

Onondaga will host SUNY Broome this Tuesday, March 25th at 2pm.
