Syracuse, NY - Volleyball hosted the dominant Jefferson Cannoneer program Tuesday night in Allyn Hall. The Lazers put up a tremendous fight but took the loss in 4 sets.
The Lazers came out of the gate hot with several leads over Jefferson. Trailing 24-20, the Lazers clawed back to tie it up 24-24, but would fall by 2 in set one. The set one loss hit the Lazers hard with a tough 25-8 blow in set 2. With the match on the line, OCC found a spark in set 3 with as big as a 5-point lead. Forcing a 4th set, the Lazers took a 26-24 win and a chance to force a 5th and take a win over Jefferson. Putting up a strong fight in the 4th, the Lazers couldn't string together the win falling in the 4th set taking the 3-1 loss.
What was perhaps the Lazers strongest performance of the season thus far was led by
Ava Bero with 8 kills and 13 digs. Other strong showings came from
Nevaeh Baker with 12 digs,
Kara Stephens with 7 kills, and
Alexsis Knox with 18 assists.
The Lazers will look to bring back some wins from Utica, NY for the Mohawk Valley Regional Tri-Match this Saturday, September 14th taking on the Hawks and the Herkimer Generals.
