Syracuse, NY - Baseball hosted the SUNY Sullivan Generals on Friday for a doubleheader in their season opener. The two split the series giving Onondaga a 1-1 start to the season.
The Lazers went head-to-head in both contests against the strong Sullivan program resulting in extra innings in game one. With a 7-5 lead over Sullivan in the 7th inning and two outs and a full-count, Sullivan strung together 2 runs to tie it up and hold the Lazers scoreless. With a 11-run 9th inning for the Generals, the Lazers took a 18-7 loss in game one. The Lazers were led by
Jake DePalma with 3Â hits and
Ryan Kennedy with 2 RBIs.
Carter Stewart and
Jonathan Gonzalez-Perez had 3 strikeouts on the bump.
Game two started at 5:45pm after a long first game.
Matt Carner started on the mound for the Lazers and held his own in 5 innings with 5 strikeouts and allowing 2 runs. The Lazer offense took the edge in the 5th thanks to a walk, single, HBP, and a foul ball along the Generals dugout and a neglect to cover home allowed the Lazers to score 2 runs on an errant throw home resulting in a 3-2 score.
Carter King was brought to the mound in the 6th to hold the Generals scoreless and taking the win in game two.
The Lazers will host Jefferson Community College this Wednesday, March 13th at 3pm for their first conference doubleheader.
