Softball Goes 3-1 on the Weekend

Syracuse, NY - The Lazers Softball team had a jam packed weekend hosting Jefferson Community College and traveling to Finger Lakes Community College for two double-headers. The Lazers had a dominant showing on Saturday at home sweeping Jefferson and splitting with Finger Lakes on Sunday to even up their overall record to 8-8.

The Lazers came out for Game 1 on Saturday with Sophomore, Trista DeLong on the mound. DeLong went head to head with Jefferson each giving up 2 runs in the 1st inning and none in the 2nd. Thanks to Jenna Mills' 2-run homerun, Onondaga took a 2-0 lead in the 3rd. The Lazers carried this momentum into the 4th and 5th scoring a combined 7 runs and holding the Cannoneers to 2 in the 5th, the Lazers came out on top for a final score of 11-4. Zoe White led with 3 base hits and a career high 5 RBIs. DeLong's career-high 12 strikeouts secured her the win on the mound.

The Lazers wasted no time in game 2 putting up runs in the 1st from a 2-RBI double from Jenna Mills. The Cannoneers evened up the score scoring 1 run each in the 2nd and 3rd and holding Onondaga scoreless. Bianca DeSellems came in relief to the mound in the 3rd inning and giving up no runs until DeLong came in to close securing the 6-2 win. A Carley Cinquemani 2-RBI single in the 5th and an Emma Kelly 2-RBI double in the 7th produced the Lazer's 4 additional runs for a final score of  6-2 and a 2-0 record on the day. DeSellems secure the win on the mound.

Canandaigua, NY - The quick turnaround to Finger Lakes CC on Sunday got the best of the Lazers as they were unable to produce runs in game 1. With the exception of Bianca DeSellems' 4-4 performance at the plate, the Lazers couldn't find their offensive groove until the 6th inning where they clawed back to score 4 runs after five consecutive base-hits. But this rally wouldn't be enough to take the lead resulting in a 6-4 loss.

Game 1's 6th inning rally sparked some momentum coming out in game 2. The Lazers were able to produce runs in every inning resulting in a mercy rule over the Lakers. Zoe White led with 4 RBIs and leading the team with 19 total on the season. DeLong had 3 of her own off of 3 base hits.

The Lazers will travel to Corning this Thursday, April 6th for a 3pm start against the Red Barons for a doubleheader.
