Herkimer, NY - The Lazer softball program hit the road this Thursday after a long 10 days since their last matchup. They traveled East for the classic softball rivalry between Onondaga and the Herkimer Generals.
Aubrey Fraher started game 1 on the mound. The Lazers kept the margin tight on defense as they led the Generals in the 3rd inning 2-1 after an RBI single from
Jenna Mills with bases loaded and
Zoe White 's stolen home base. The Generals responded with 4 runs in the bottom of the inning due to 3 hard hit base hits, 2 walks, and an error by the Lazer defense. Lazers trail 5-2. Unable to produce any more runs, the Lazers gave up 4 more in the bottom of the 5th for a final of 10-2.
Kendall Cuyler went 2-2 from the plate in game 1.
The Lazers came out in game 2 having tightened up the defense. With
Trista DeLong on the mound and a quick first 4 innings, the teams were all tied up 2-2 in the top of the 5th due to a 2-run homerun from
Aubrey Fraher. But multiple Lazer errors allowed the Generals to manufacture 5 runs in the next inning. Trailing 7-2, the Lazers responded with 6 runs of their own to take an 8-7 lead after capitalizing scoring 2 runs on a Herkimer error. DeLong couldn't hold the Generals offense as they proceeded to put up runs resulting in an 11-8 loss. Fraher led with 3 RBIs in game 2.
The team will travel to Albany, NY this weekend looking for wins against Columbia-Greene and Hudson Valley CC.
