Baseball Brings Home Two Wins Over Genesee

Batavia, NY - Onondaga traveled to Genesee Community College this Tuesday for a double header against the Cougars. The Lazers brought home both wins over Genesee moving to an overall record of 13-9. Genesee was recently ranked #1 in the latest Region III coaches' poll before the two defeats by Onondaga.

Wyatt Braun started on the bump in game 1 and giving a solid 5-inning performance allowing just 1 earned run. Alongside him, the Lazer defense held the Cougars completely scoreless in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th inning. OCC found the board with a solo homerun from Carter King in the top of the 5th and manufactured two more runs for a 3-2 lead. Finding themselves all tied in the 7th, Jonathan Gonzalez-Perez found himself at the plate to drive in the go ahead run, Jake Khouri. The Cougars couldn't manufacture in the bottom of the inning and the Lazers took the victory in game 1 with a final score of 5-4. Matt Carner secured the win on the mound after relieving Braun.

Both teams came out in the 1st inning of game 2 scoring a single run each. Another OCC run in the 2nd game them a 2-1 lead until allowing the Cougars to score in the 4th for a 2-2 tie. In the top of the 5th with two outs, the Lazers strung together 5 base hits to score 5 runs for a 7-2 lead. After scoring 2 more runs in the 7th and holding Genesee scoreless, the Lazers took game 2 with a 9-2 final score. Carlos Fantauzzi and Kolby Gidcumb led with 2 RBI's each. Jack Knapp secured the win pitching a complete game with 5 strikeouts and a slim 2 earned runs.

OCC's next contest will take place tomorrow, Thursday, April 13th at 2pm for a doubleheader against the Lakers of Finger Lakes Community College at the OCC Baseball Complex.
