Clermont, FL - The softball program kicked off their season with a 10-game trip to Florida with a record of 4-6 on the week.
Day 1 resulted in 2 losses against Iowa Lakes and Mott Community College. Carley Cinquemani scored the Lazer's lone run in Game 1 and recorded a base hit. Bianca DeSellems led the Lazers in game 2 with 2 base hits and 2 RBIs in the 15-5 defeat.
The Lazers recorded 2 losses on day 2 after being defeated by Cuyahoga Community College and another matchup with Iowa Lakes. Zoe White led with 3 base hits and 2 RBIs on the day. White returned to the field this week after an ACL injury last season.
The Lazers recorded their first win of the season on Day 3 after splitting with Lakeland University JV and finding their offensive groove. All-Region Sophia D'Arcangelis, Bianca DeSellems, Jenna Mills, and Aubrey Fraher each recorded 3 base hits in the 13-3 win. Fraher led with 4 RBIs with a 3-run homer in the top of the 4th. Mills also recorded a solo homer in the top of the 2nd.
The team carried their momentum into Day 4 as they added 2 more wins over Division 2 Bismarck State College and Suffolk County Community College. The Lazers put up base hits all across the board entering the 7th inning with a score of 12-9. Trista DeLong took care of business on the mound shutting down Suffolk striking out 2 of their 3 final batters. Avree Salce was solid behind the plate throwing out two runners stealing in the 5th. Zoe White had another offensive showing in the Lazer's win over Bismarck State with 3 RBI's. Bismarck State rallied in the top of the 7th and tied it up 9-9 after trailing the Lazers 9-5. Aubrey Fraher started off the Lazer's last ups with a line drive double. A walk-off single from Emma Kelly scored Fraher for a final of 10-9.
The Lazers finished their 5th and final day splitting with Suffolk with a final record of 4-6 on the week. The Lazer's led Suffolk 6-4 in the top of the 7th of game 1. With 2 outs, DeLong gave up a solo HR to give the Sharks a 1-run trail. After another base hit and a walk with the tying run on 2nd, and winning run on 1st, DeLong secured the win with a strikeout and pitching a full game with 6 total strikeouts (week total: 22). D'Arcangelis led with 3 hits (week total: 15) and Fraher added 3 more RBI's (week total: 9) for a final score of 6-5.
The Lazers will host Hudson Valley, Lackawanna, and Herkimer this weekend for the annual OCC Softball invitational. Game 1 will kick off at 12pm.
