Syracuse, NY - The Lazers hosted their annual Cara Bryant Memorial Pod this weekend to honor the life of former Onondaga Community College Volleyball player, Cara Bryant. Cara's family was in attendance including her father and former Onondaga Athletic Director, Hy Bryant, to share a few words about Cara and her love of the sport. Onondaga would like to thank Jefferson and Fulton-Montgomery Community Colleges for attending and participating in this honor.
Match 1 kicked off at 12pm with the Lazers taking on the No. 4 in the region, Jefferson Cannoneers. The Lazers struggled to get something going against the No. 4 team losing the first set 11-25. Making adjustments in set 2, the Lazers fell just short taking a 21-25 loss. Unable to string together points, Jefferson took the victory in the 3rd set and winning the match.
Kara Stephens had 9 kills,
Alexsis Knox had 9 assists, and
Nevaeh Baker had 11 digs in the match.Â
Onondaga returned to the court at 4:30pm for the third match of the day to take on the No. 1, undefeated Fulton-Montgomery Raiders. The Lazers came out stiff from the long break and struggled to defend the Raiders in two quick sets. Although putting up a fight in the 3rd at their last attempt, the Lazers fell 0-3 going 0-2 for the day.
Ava Bero had 13 digs in the match.
The Lazers will look to redeem tomorrow as they travel to Corning, NY for a 6pm start against the Red Barons.
