Syracuse, NY- Thursday, the Lazers had a doubleheader matchup against Mohawk Valley Community College Hawks. After giving up three quick runs in the top of the 1
st inning, the Lazers held the Hawks to six scoreless innings and battled back in the bottom of the 7
th to win game one, 4-3. In game two, the Lazers took a dominant lead in the bottom of the 3
rd, scoring seven runs straight. The Lazers used this lead to win game two, 11-3.
In game one, the Hawks took a quick lead by scoring three runs in the top of the 1
st. Sophomore pitcher
Tom Roefaro, freshman pitcher
Jimmy Scherer, and the Lazers defense stayed solid and didn't give up any more runs for the remaining six innings. The Lazers were led offensively by sophomore center fielder
Eli Neth. Neth had two hits for two RBI at four plate appearances.
In game two, the Lazers were led offensively by freshman left fielder
Mike Benedetto and freshman second baseman
Kyle Wood. Benedetto had two hits, two RBI, two runs, and drew a walk at four plate appearances. Wood added two RBI, one run, and a walk in four plate appearances. Freshman pitcher
Jared Wilson earned his first win on the mound facing 23 batters and holding the Hawks to four hits, three runs, two earned runs, and one walk through six innings.
The Lazers will look to go undefeated on the week when they host Massasoit Community College Warriors in two 7-inning games Friday, March 18
th, at the Onondaga Community College Baseball Complex. The first game will begin at 5:00 p.m.
