The Onondaga
Lazers Softball team defeats Corning Community College on Friday to win the District B Region III Championship. The
Lazers took game 1, 5-4 and game 2, 13-9. With the win the
Lazers advance to the
NJCAA National Champions Tournament in Rochester, MN.
Game 1
After being down 5-0 going into the bottom of the fifth the
Lazers bats got hot. They started the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the 5th. The
Lazers tallied two more runs in the bottom of the 6th when
Maya Davies blasted a two-run home run. With the game 4-4 in the bottom of the 7
th Gina Meyers drove in the
Hailey Niles for the game winning run.
Game 2
The Lazers once again put themselves in a hole early in game two. Onondaga trailed 7-0 after three innings of play and 8-3 after five innings. Both teams went scoreless in the sixth. In the top of the seventh the Lazers when on a tear at the plate. Onondaga finished the inning by scoring 10 runs on 9 hits to take a 13-9 lead. After walking the first batter in the bottom of the 7
th the Lazers were able to turn a double play to record the first two out of the inning. The next batter for Corning flied out to end the game and secure the Division III Region III Championship for Onondaga.
