Four Lazers inducted into the NJCAA Men's Lacrosse Hall of Fame

Four former members of the Onondaga Community College Men's Lacrosse team were recently inducted into the NJCAA Men's Lacrosse Hall of Fame. Brendan Storrier, Stefan Schroder, Shayne Jackson and Randy Staats were recognized for their outstanding careers at Onondaga alongside Herkimer Community College graduates Rich Barnes and Scott Ditzell.


Brendan Storrier, '06 is a Lafayette High School graduate where he helped lead his team to a 2005 State Championship alongside two Lazers alumni and 2016 NJCAA Hall of Fame inductees, Jeremy and Jerome Thompson.

Storrier was a two-time All-American at Onondaga Community College. In 2005, he scored a staggering 80 goals while recording 39 assists. In 2006, Storrier was second on the team in scoring and third in total points while capturing the 2006 NJCAA National Championship, the first in program history. He finished the 2006 NJCAA National Championship game with 5 goals and 5 assists and was named to the NJCAA All-Tournament team. Storrier finished his career at Onondaga with 218 points (138 goals, 80 assists), making him the third ranked scorer and fifth ranked point leader of all-time.

Storrier transferred to Limestone College where he was a 2008 All-American, and led the Saints in scoring during the 2008 and 2009 seasons. He currently ranks twenty-third in NCAA Division II history with 4.61 points per game.

He has served as the Offensive Coordinator at Limestone College since 2010 and led the Saints to back-to-back NCAA Division II National Championships in 2014 and 2015. Last season, Storrier mentored a record-breaking offensive unit as the Saints set NCAA Division II benchmarks in wins (21), points (664), goals (424), and assists (240). He was named the USILA Assistant Coach of the Year in 2014, and has coached thirty-seven NCAA All-Americans in the last six seasons, including Lazers alum and fellow 2017 Hall of Fame inductee, Shayne Jackson.


Stefan Schroder, '06 has made a positive impact on every program that he has ever played for, earning All-American accolades five times throughout his playing career.
 
He was a three year starter at East Syracuse-Minoa High School and captained the Spartans to a Section III Title in 2004. Schroder completed his high school career with 705 saves and received All-American honors in 2004. In addition, he won a gold medal and was named MVP in the Empire State Games in 2003.
 
Schroder was a two-time All-American at Onondaga Community College, capping off his two-year career by leading the program to their first ever NJCAA National Championship is 2006.  The sophomore captain made sixteen saves in the, 30-6, victory over Suffolk County Community College, and deservingly received NJCAA Goalie of the Year for the second time in as many years.

He continued his career at The Ohio State University, receiving All-American honors twice, and named Team MVP in both 2007 and 2008. He helped the Buckeyes to the program's first NCAA Tournament victory over Cornell University on May 10, 2008. Schroder had sixteen saves in the game and scored the first goal of the game which was featured on ESPN SportsCenter's top 10 plays.

Schroder was picked up by the Rochester Rattlers in the Major League Lacrosse Draft, where he was later traded to the Ohio Machine. Schroder now trains the next generation. He serves as the Head Boy's Lacrosse Coach at Westerville Central High School and he is an Instructor with Resolute Lacrosse in Ohio.


Shayne Jackson, '10 played four years of lacrosse and hockey at St. Stephen's High School. He served as team captain as a senior.
 
Jackson was a two-time NJCAA National Champion at Onondaga Community College. He was captain of the 2010 team, and named 2010 NJCAA Player of the Year after leading the Lazers in goals (58), assists (63) and points (121). Jackson currently sits in the top-ten lists for career assists (89), single-season assists (63) and single-season points (121) at Onondaga.

Jackson's success followed him to Limestone College where he earned First-Team All-American honors in 2011 and 2012. He was the Saints first ever Tewaaraton Award finalist in 2011 after he led the nation in points (4.82) and assists (2.94) per game. Jackson is still the Saints' all-time single-season assist record holder with 50 in 2011, and his 94 career assists ranks him fifth all-time. He is also currently eleventh all-time in NCAA Division II history with 2.61 assists per game.

Jackson was a first round (fourth overall) pick by the Georgia Swarm in the 2012 National Lacrosse League Draft. He is rated as one of the top-50 players in the NLL, and serves as Assistant Captain of the first place Swarm. During the summer months, Jackson competes in Major Series Lacrosse for the Brooklin Redmen in Whitby, Ontario, Canada. In addition, Jackson travels the United States and Canada promoting the game of lacrosse through camps and clinics.


Randy Staats, '13 attended McKinnon Park Secondary School in Caledonia, Ontario, Canada. In 2008, he was the youngest member of the Iroquois Nationals U-19 team that won bronze at the Federation of International Lacrosse Word Championship. He won the 2009 Dennis McIntosh Award while competing for the Six Nations Arrows of the Ontario Junior 'A' League after he tallied 95 points in the regular season and added 28 more in the postseason.
 
Staats was a two-time NJCAA Offensive Player of the Year and First-Team All-American while winning two NJCAA National Championships at Onondaga Community College in 2012 and 2013. He led the NJCAA in scoring with 139 points (57 goals, 82 assists) in 2012 and 156 points (73 goals, 83 assists) in 2013. He is also the current all-time leader in career points (295) and career assists (165) at Onondaga.

Staats continued his education and playing career at Syracuse University where he was a two-time All-American and Tewaarton Award finalist in both seasons. Staats made his mark in the Orange Record Book when he scored five goals against Notre Dame on April 27, 2014, the most goals scored in an ACC Tournament game.

Staats was drafted sixth overall by the Georgia Swarm in the 2015 National Lacrosse League Draft and twenty-ninth by the Rochester Rattlers in the MLL Draft. He was announced the 2016 NLL Rookie of the Year after tallying 95 points (36 goals, 59 assists) in his first season with the Swarm. Staats spends the off-season traveling the United States and Canada, promoting the game of lacrosse through camps, clinics, and speaking engagements.
