Box Score Onondaga Lazers started the season out right against Anne Arundel on Saturday, starting the season with a 29-9 over the Riverhawks.
During the first,
Russ Oakes scored two within eighteen seconds. The first came by the help of
PJ Delpha at the 7:52 mark, and the second was assisted by
Nick Koelmel with 7:34 on the clock.
The Riverhawks scored 23 seconds into the second period, but the Lazers didn't let that sink in.
Larson Sundown, responded with a goal with 13:24 left on the clock. Forty-four seconds after
Terrance Haggerty helped Sundown with the assist, he scored a goal, making the score 7-3. But Haggerty didn't stop there. He followed with two goals and two assists in that period alone.
As if the Riverhawks didn't need any more difficulties after trailing 14 goals at the start of the second half, Syracuse's unpredictable weather started downpouring rain and produced heavy winds, affecting both teams, but at the end, the Lazers came out strong.
With 5:54 left during the third period,
Zach Pinney, had a one minute technical foul with 4:08 left on the clock. Out-manned,
Sean Lattimore scored one and 19 seconds later,
Drey Martin, added another goal to the Lazers lead. At the end of the third period, the Lazers were up 24-8.
As the rain continued to get worse during the fourth, both teams slowed down. The Lazers scored five goals while the Riverhawks only scored one.
The freshman class made their presence felt by tallying 21 of the team's 29 goals, and a game high 8-point performance by freshman
Russ Oakes (4 goals, 4 assists).
Terrance Haggerty (5 goals) and
James Sexton (4 goals, 1 assists) earned 5 points on the day. While veterans,
Sean Lattimore (3 goals, 1 assist) and
Larson Sundown (2 goals, 2 assists) tallied 4 points each. Midfielders,
Zach Pierce and
Drey Martin each recorded 1 goal and 2 assists, and freshman attacks
Thakwi Cross (1 goal, 1 assist) and
Brian Cunningham (2 assists) added to the offensive effort.

Ty Cadeau led the pack in face-offs, going 7 for 8; followed by
Evan Schumacher (11 for 14), and
Colton Thew (9 for 13).
Riley Smith started between the pipes for OCC, recording 7 saves and giving up 6 goals in 45 minutes of play.
Kyle Leeming entered the game for the final 15 minutes, stopping 3 saves and allowing 3 goals.
The Lazers look to continue with another win as they host the Mercyhurst North East Saints at home on Wednesday, March 1st at 4pm at David W. Murphy Field.
