Women's Basketball Starts Season with Win on the Road

Box Score The Onondaga Community College Women's Basketball Team traveled to Batavia on Thursday to take on D-II rival Genesee Community College and came away with a 74-50 victory to start the regular season.
 
The Lazers jumped out to a 25-15 lead in the first period on the strength of  good outside shooting by sophomore Shannon Foehl (Skaneateles), good inside play from sophomores Samantha Britton (Kenmore West) and Syndi Eure (East Syracuse-Minoa) and a swarming full-court defense that helped turn the tide in Onondaga's favor.  Onondaga continued to turn up the defensive pressure in the second period and led 44-25 at the half.  The second half saw the Lazers use their full roster of players on their way to their opening game win.
 
Foehl led Onondaga in scoring with a career high 21 points that include five 3-pointers, while Britton chipped in with 16, and Eure had 14 and a team leading 10 rebounds.  Sophomore Rachel Scalisi (Fabius-Pompey) finished with 8 points and 6 rebounds.
 
The Lazers with be home in Allyn Gymnasium for two games this coming weekend – playing Sullivan Community College at 12 noon on Saturday and nationally ranked Hostos Community College at 12 noon on Sunday.
