Baseball Closes out Regular Season with Four Game Sweep of Erie Community College; Finishes 32-17

The Onondaga Community College baseball team swept Erie Community College over the weekend to finish regular season play with a 32-17 record. On Saturday in Buffalo, New York Onondaga took game one 12-3 and game two. Sunday at The Baseball Complex in Syracuse, the Lazers completed the sweep with 5-2 and 7-4 victories.

Game One (5/7): Onondaga 12, Erie CC 3

On the third pitch of the game, John Larca launched a lead-off home run to jumpstart the Lazers 12-run, 13-hit attack Saturday afternoon en route to a 12-3 win in game one. Paul Fitzgibbons went 3-4 at the dish with two RBIs and three runs scored. Chad Raychel, Nate Budge, Terry Daniels and Larca all booked two hits apiece, while Avery Brooks and Justin Germain added one hit each. Fitzgibbons scored three times and knocked in two runners and Larca collected three RBIs.

Freshman righty Aaron Beck picked up his eighth win of the seaon tossing a complete game three-hitter. Beck surrendered three runs (two earned) and struck out five Kats.

Game Two (5/7): Onondaga 2, Erie CC 1

Onondaga scored two runs in the fifth inning to take the lead for good in the nightcap on Saturday. Raychel lined a triple down the right field line to score Larca from first to tie the game 1-1. Fitzgibbons followed with a single that brought home Raychel to give Onondaga a 2-1 lead.

Raychel finished 2-3 from the plate, while Fitzgibbons, Daniels and Germain collected a hit each for the Lazers.

Freshman lefty Sean Connors improved to a perfect 4-0 record on the season going six innings giving up an unearned run with two strikeouts. Freshman righty Kyle Naugle picked up his seventh save of the season pitching a perfect seventh inning.

Game One (5/8): Onondaga 5, Erie CC 2

Onondaga scored four runs in the third inning on their way to a 5-2 win Sunday afternoon in game one. Larca, Daniels and Justin Mathers each carded two hits, while Brooks, Budge, Fitzgibbons and Germain lined singles for the offense.

Freshman lefty Matt Valin improved to 4-1 on the season going six innings of three-hit ball. Valin gave up two runs and struck out four. Naugle closed the door in the seventh for his eighth save of the season.

Game Two (5/8): Onondaga 7, Erie CC 4

The Lazers plated three runs in the opening two frames and one run in the third to jump out to a 7-0 lead after three. Fitzgibbons went 2-2 at the plate with two RBIs and a run scored. Raychel, Larca, Austin Hall, Budge and Daniels rounded out the offense with a hit each.

Nick Claver recorded his fourth win of the season pitching six innings allowing two runs on nine hits. Naugle picked up his NJCAA Dision III national leading ninth save of the year.

The Lazers (32-17) return to the diamond on Saturday for the NJCAA Region III tournament with a three game series against a to-be-determined opponent.
