Softball Wins 12th Straight with Sweep of Mohawk Valley Community College, 10-0, 14-6

Utica, N.Y. – The Onondaga Community College softball team took both ends of its doubleheader, 10-0, 14-6, Thursday afternoon against Mohawk Valley Community College in Utica, NY. The Lazers have won 12 straight and 22 of 24 dating back to April 9th.

Game One: Onondaga 10, Mohawk Valley CC 0

The Lazers used a six run third inning to take game one against Mohawk Valley. Victoria Duffy went a perfect 3-3 at the plate, while Lea Newman, Morgan Neadom and Samantha Moon all picked up two hits. Sierra Keesler, Morgan Nichols and Casey Gray each booked a hit for the Lazers 12-hit offense. Moon knocked in three runners to lead the Lazers in that respective category.  

Nichols earned the win for the Lazers tossing a complete game five-hitter with four strikeouts. Nichols leads the NJCAA Region III in strikeouts with 128 in 143 and a third innings pitched.

Game Two: Onondaga 14, Mohawk Valley CC 6

In the nightcap, seven different Lazers booked multiple hits – Moon (3), Neadom (2), Moon (2), Gray (2), Victoria Duffy (2), Jordan Doane(2) and Jess Rodriguez (2). Newman and Emillee Robords collected a hit each to round out Onondaga's 17-hit attack. Nichols, Duffy, Gray and Rodriquez collected two RBIs each, while Moon and Gray touch home plate three times each.

Duffy got the start and the win in the circle throwing two innings and giving up four runs (two earned) on seven hits. Nichols pitched the final three innings out of the bullpen surrendering two runs on four hits.

The Lazers (27-13) return to the diamond on Saturday as they play host to Monroe Community College for a doubleheader set for 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. at the Softball Complex to close out regular season play.
