Syracuse, N.Y. – Freshman shortstop Brandon Breen stole third base in the bottom half of the eighth inning and scored on a throwing error by the catcher to help lead the Lazers to a 1-0 victory in game two over Jamestown Community College Saturday afternoon at the Baseball Complex. The Lazers took game one 9-4 to complete the day's sweep.
Game One: Onondaga 9, Jamestown CC 4
In game one, John Larca led the Lazers with two hits, two RBI's and two runs scored, while Kevin Myers, Chad Raychel, Austin Hall, Paul Fitzgibbons, Breen and Justin Mathers each found their way on base with a hit. Mathers scored twice for the Lazers and Breen collected two RBI's.
Freshman righty Aaron Beck improved to 7-2 on the season going five innings giving up four runs on four hits while striking out six Jayhawks. Nick Claver pitched the final two innings out of the bullpen surrendering three hits and striking out two. Â Â
Game Two: Onondaga 1, Jamestown CC 0 (8 innings)
In the nightcap, Onondaga scored its run in the bottom half of the eighth inning to win 1-0 in walk-off fashion. Breen led off the frame with a single to right center and took second after a sacrifice bunt from Myers. Breen would then steal third base and continue to get up and score after the Jamestown catcher threw the ball into left field.
Kyle Naugle picked up his fourth win out of the bullpen. Lefty Sean Connors started on the mound going four and one-third innings allowing just four hits and striking out four. Zach Martz pitched two and two-thirds innings of perfect baseball before giving way to Naugle in the eighth. Â
Onondaga's five hits were all singles coming off the bats of Hall, Autie Ascenzi, Josh Cosgrove, Breen and Mathers.
The Lazers (24-15) head to Monroe Community College on Tuesday for a doubleheader slated for 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.
