Errors Prove Costly as Softball Drops Two to Mercyhurst North East, 11-5, 12-2

North East, PA – Mercyhurst North East pounded out 25 hits against the Onondaga Community College softball team Saturday afternoon to take both ends of the doubleheader. The Saints completed its four game sweep of Onondaga on the season.

Game One: Mercyhurst North East 11, Onondaga 5

Freshman center fielder Emily Clapper led the way for the Lazer's offense collecting two hits and scoring twice. Victoria Duffy, Kyra Hunsinger, Casey Gray, Sierra Keesler, and Morgan Neadom rounded out the offense with a hit each. Duffy collected two RBI to lead the Lazers.

Sophomore Morgan Nichols (2-4) suffered the loss for the Lazers going five innings yielding seven runs (three earned) on nine hits and five strikeouts.

Freshman Chelcee Staats tossed an inning of relief giving up four runs (none earned) on two hits and a strikeout.

 
Game Two: Mercyhurst North East 12, Onondaga 2 (5 innings)

In the nightcap, Mercyhust North East proved its nine run first inning was good enough.

Offensively, Clapper collected two hits again to lead the Lazers, while Neadom, Hunsinger and Staats each booked a hit.

Duffy (0-1) took the loss going two-thirds of an inning issuing eight runs (one earned) on six hits. Staats pitched three and one-third innings out of the bullpen giving up four runs on five hits and four strikeouts.

The Lazers (4-12) return to action this Saturday as they travel to Hudson Valley Community College for a doubleheader slated for 1p.m.
