Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball Splits Four-Game Series with Corning Community College

The Onondaga Community College baseball team split its four-game series with Corning Community College on the season. The Lazers won both games of the doubleheader, 8-4, 10-0, on Tuesday evening at the Baseball Complex but lost the final two games at Corning, 1-0, 3-2, Thursday afternoon.

Game One (4/26): Onondaga 8, Corning CC 4

The Lazers, down 4-2 in the sixth inning, plated six runs in the bottom half of the sixth to take game one 8-4. Nate Budge lifted a two-out inside-the-park grand slam to break the tie game in the sixth. Chad Raychel, Justin Germain and Justin Mathers collected two hits each, while Brandon Breen added a hit of his own for Onondaga's eight hit attack.

Colin Smith (1-1) recorded his first win of the season pitching two-thirds of an inning out of the bullpen with two strike outs. Starter Nick Claver surrendered four runs (two earned) on nine hits in five and one-third innings of work. Kyle Naugle pitched a clean seventh inning out of the bullpen.

Game Two (4/26): Onondaga 10, Corning CC 0 (5 Innings)

In game two on Tuesday, The Lazers scored in every offensive frame to mercy Corning 10-0 in five innings. Lefty Matt Valin (3-1) tossed all five innings for the Lazers yielding just two hits and striking out nine Red Barons.

Germain, John Larca and Paul Fitzgibbons each collected two hits, while Raychel, Josh Cosgrove, Breen, and Kevin Myers all added a hit to round out Onondaga's 10 hit attack.

Game One (4/28): Corning CC 1, Onondaga 0

The Lazers managed just four hits in game one and were shut out for just the second time this year. Austin Hall, Breen, Budge and Fitzgibbons were the only bright spots for the offense collecting a hit each.

Alexander Way (2-2) went the distance giving up one run on four hits, while striking out five.

Game Two (4/28): Corning CC 3, Onondaga 2

Fitzgibbons' two-run home run in the fifth inning wasn't enough to overcome a 3-0 deficit in game two on Thursday afternoon. Budge and Larca added two hits, while Breen and Myers booked a hit each for the offense.

Brandon Michaud took the loss going one and two-thirds innings giving up three runs (two earned) on one hit and five walks. Cody Mosher and Paul Musso pitched the final four and one-third innings for the defense.

The Lazers (22-15) return to the diamond this weekend for a four-game series with Jamestown Community College. Saturday and Sunday's doubleheaders will both take place at the Baseball complex with the first pitch slated for 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
