Baseball falls late to No. 7 Niagara County Community College, Swept 9-1, 4-3

The Onondaga Community College baseball team gave up a 3-2 lead in the bottom half of the seventh inning in game two against seventh-ranked Niagara Country Community College Tuesday afternoon in Sanborn, N.Y. to lose 4-3. The Lazers lost game one 9-1.

Game One: Niagara CCC 9, Onondaga 1

The Lazers put up a run in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead but failed to score to rest of the way. Austin Hall and Paul Fitzgibbons recorded the only two hits for the offense in game one.

Matt Valin took the loss for the Lazers giving up three runs (two earned) on one hit and five walks in two innings. Valin struck out four Thunder Wolves. Onondaga walked 11 batters in the game.

Game Two: Niagara CCC 4, Onondaga 3

In the nightcap, the Lazers took a 3-2 lead into the seventh but surrendered two runs in the final frame to be on the wrong side of the walk-off.

The Lazers scored all three of their runs in the top-half of the fifth inning. Terry Daniels, Autie Ascenzi, Josh Cosgrove, Brandon Breen and Justin Mathers each collected one hit for the offense.

Sean Connors went five innings giving up two runs on four hits and five walks, while striking out four.

The Lazers (18-9) host seventh-ranked Niagara County Community College (24-4) on Thursday for a doubleheader at the Baseball Complex with the first pitch slated for 4 p.m.
