Syracuse N.Y. – Sophomore left fielder John Larca drove in the winning run in extra innings in game one and the Onondaga offense put up five runs with two outs in the third inning of game two to sweep Genesee Community College Tuesday afternoon at the Baseball Complex. The Lazers won game one 3-2 and took game two 7-4.

Game One: Onondaga 3, Genesee CC 2

After falling behind 2-0 in the top half of the first inning, the Lazers struck back for two of their own to tie the game 2-2 after one inning of play. After a one-out walk issued to freshman shortstop Austin Hall, sophomore second baseman Avery Brooks lined a double to left-center scoring Hall from first. Sophomore catcher Paul Fitzgibbons followed by lining a single to plate Brooks and tie the score at two apiece.

The game went into extra innings where the Lazers would score on a walk-off sacrifice fly by Larca. Freshman designated hitter Autie Ascenzi doubled down the line to lead off the eighth. Freshman left fielder Chad Raychel laid down a bunt single to move sophomore pinch-runner Justin Mathers to third base. Larca proceeded to lift a sacrifice fly to left center to score Mathers for the walk-off win.

Sophomore righty Alexander Way went five innings giving up two runs (zero earned) on five hits and one walk, while striking out two. Freshman righty Zach Martz pitched one and two-thirds innings giving up just one hit. Freshman right hander Kyle Naugle picked up the win throwing one and one-third innings.

Game Two: Onondaga 7, Genesee CC 4

Sophomore third baseman Nate Budge followed with a single through the left side and then freshman first baseman Justin Germain singled through the right side to plate Fitzgibbons. Daniels followed Germain with a single of his own to score Budge making it 3-0. After freshman catcher Josh Cosgrove was hit by a pitch, Raychel walked to drive in Germain, Larca then walked to drive in Daniels and then Hall walked to plate Cosgrove to give Onondaga a 6-0 lead.
