Myrtle Beach, S.C. – The Onondaga Community College baseball team scored two runs in the top half of the seventh inning to beat Bergen Community College 5-4 on Thursday afternoon at The Ripken Experience – Myrtle Beach. The Lazers finished their spring break trip winning all five games to stay unbeaten.
The Lazers struck first with three runs on two hits in the top half of the fourth inning. Sophomore second baseman
Avery Brooks led off the frame with a line drive up the middle. The bases became loaded after sophomore catcher
Paul Fitzgibbons was hit by a pitch and sophomore third baseman
Nate Budge walked. Freshman first baseman
Justin Germain then lined a single to left field to score Brooks and Fitzgibbons. After a sacrifice bunt by freshman center fielder
Terry Daniels,
Autie Ascenzi drove in Budge on a fielder's choice to take a 3-0 lead.
Bergen Community College cut the Lazers lead to 3-1 with a run in the fifth after a single by second baseman Lewis Beato that scored center fielder Joe Biggiani. Following another run in the bottom half of the sixth, Bergen went on to take a 4-3 lead on a two-run homerun by catcher Jordan Jackson.
Down to their final three outs, the Lazers scored two runs to retake the lead in the seventh without recording a hit. Freshman left fielder
Chad Raychel led off with a walk and proceeded to steal second base. After a walk by sophomore left fielder
John Larca and a fly out by Brooks, Fitzgibbons drew a walk to load the bases.
Nate Budge then worked a walk to score Raychel, tying the score at four apiece. After a Germain pop-up to the pitcher,
Terry Daniels drew a walk to score Larca for the winning run.
Larca and Germain led the Lazers offense with two hits each. Â

Matt Valin went four and two-third innings giving up just one run on three hits while striking out four in his college debut. Freshman righty
Kyle Naugle earned the win going two innings and giving up a run.
The Lazers (7-0) return to the diamond on Tuesday for a doubleheader against Mercyhurst North East Community College at the Baseball Complex starting at 4 p.m.Â
