The Onondaga Community College women's basketball team returned to New York State after the team's bi-annual Florida trip to open its Mid-State Athletic Conference schedule with a 71-54 road win over Corning Community College on Saturday.
Freshman Yami Reyes (Monticello) came off the bench late in the second quarter to score six straight points to lead the visitors to a hard fought 33-32 halftime margin.Â
Onondaga put the game away in the third stanza when they went on an 18-1 run to lead 51-33 with two minutes left in the quarter.
Reyes led the Lazers in scoring with 14 points while Melissa Bakowski (West Genesee) chipped in with 12, and Hope DeFazio (Baldwinsville) had 10. NJCAA assists leader Samantha Roberts (Cicero-North Syracuse) once again had a fine floor game distributing the ball for 7 assists while scoring 9 points.
The Lazers will be home for a 5pm game at Allyn Hall on Tuesday against conference opponent Broome Community College.
